Cruise News Dubai cruises increase passenger / tourist numbers to the Emirates

Here's some cruise news from our sister company The Cruise Village...

Dubai is certainly our most popular winter cruise destination in terms of actual growth year on year, and the deals online at our cruises4u website certainly offer fantastic value for money!

I have just received the following press release from the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

They forecast that 260,817 cruise tourists will visit the emirate this year, nearly 25% more than in 2008.

From January to March 2009 alone 90,442 cruise tourists arrived in Dubai, mostly from Britain, the US and Europe, aboard 51 ships.

Ian Scott, director UK and Ireland for the Government of Dubai, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: ‘Dubai provides the ideal international cruise centre where visitors can stopover and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city, or experience the tranquillity of the desert.

‘Cruise visitors are becoming an increasingly important part of Dubai’s tourism industry and with Dubai Cruise Terminal fully open for business by the end of the year it looks to grow further.’

The new facility is the only cruise terminal in the world operated by a government department of tourism, enabling it to provide ‘extra attention to every visitor and enhance the experience including certified tour guides and a swift entry system with no visa issues’.

Dubai expects to see further growth next year when it handles 99 ships, bringing more than 383,000 cruise tourists.
